Safety and Security of Magnet Halls
The first line of defence in preventing accidents in the magnet halls is the doors.
When not in use (even briefly) the magnet hall doors must be left LOCKED with the keys removed and put in their correct places. The security doors must also be kept locked and should not be put on the latch except under exceptional circumstances.
Outer Controlled Area
This area contains the 0.5mT (5 gauss) field line around magnets and is defined by the key-coded doors (these are are marked with black/yellow striped tape). No one with a pacemaker or aneurysm clips should pass beyond this limit.
Inner Controlled Area
This area contains the 3mT (30 gauss) field line around magnets and is marked
by red/white striped tape on the bottom of doors, or in the case of the 7T lab, the red and white chains.. No one should pass into this
area unless they have 'amber' or 'green' access to the building (see above table).
